Roberto Macrì is a Sicilian-based pianist, keyboardist, and producer. His musical path brings together classical training, a deep interest in jazz, and a focus on contemporary production and sound design.
Born in Sicily, he began playing piano at the age of four. He earned his diploma in classical piano with highest honors and special mention, later continuing his studies with some of the greatest Italian piano teachers.
Over time, he developed a strong interest in jazz, drawn to improvisation and its expressive possibilities. After an initial period of self-study, he studied with Barry Harris, Ramberto Ciammarughi, and Stjepko Gut. He later completed his Jazz Piano Diploma at the “A. Scarlatti” Conservatory in Palermo, graduating with highest honors and special mention. Throughout the years, he has collaborated with various musicians from the Italian jazz scene.
Alongside his work as a pianist, he cultivated an interest in electronic music, computer-based composition, and audio engineering. In 2018, he completed his Master’s Degree in Sound and Entertainment Engineering at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, graduating with highest honors. He is also active as a producer, arranger, and songwriter, working on a range of projects in both acoustic and electronic contexts.
His touring life has taken him across Italy — from Milan, Turin, and Genoa to Palermo, Catania, and Verona — and internationally to the United States, Colombia, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Dutch symphonic metal band MaYaN, performing throughout Europe and the Americas at major festivals including ProgPower USA, Masters of Rock (CZ), Metal on the Hill (AT), and Dokk’em Open Air (NL).
He also develops his own projects, including MACRÌ, an avant-pop/classical duo with his sister Laura Macrì, as well as jazz piano solo and trio projects. Over the years, he has performed with artists such as Nick The Nightfly, Sarah Jane Morris, Alexander Beets, Owen Hart Jr., Elio, Giovanni Falzone, and others.
His work moves between acoustic piano, keyboards, electronic production, and arranging, reflecting an open and cross-genre approach to music.
